Line Items on Quotes & Invoices
Line items are the priced rows on a quote or invoice. Quotes and invoices use the same line-item model.
Anatomy of a line item
- Type — Labor, Material, or Flat Fee
- Description (required) — what you're charging for
- Qty — quantity (steps of 0.5)
- Unit Cost — price per unit (must be greater than 0)
- Markup % — on Material lines only
- Line total — calculated automatically
Click Add Item to add a row; use the trash icon to remove one (you must keep at least one row).
Material markup
On a Material line, set a Markup % to mark up the cost. The line total becomes quantity × unit cost, plus the markup. Labor and Flat Fee lines are priced directly.
Totals
Below the lines you'll see Subtotal, Tax (from the quote/invoice Tax Rate (%)), and Total. Everything recalculates as you type.
Pulling lines forward
- On a quote, a Template pre-fills labor and material lines.
- On an invoice, linking a Job pulls in the job's quote lines and tracked billable hours as a labor line.
FAQ
How is tax handled per line? Tax is applied at the document level via a single Tax Rate (%), not per line.
Why can't I save? Every line needs a description and a unit cost greater than zero.
Can I mark up labor? Markup is available on Material lines. For labor, set the unit cost (rate) directly.
Is there a saved catalog of items? Use Templates to reuse common sets of lines on quotes.
