Setting Up a Referral Program
Turn happy customers into your best salespeople. HandyBook's Referral Program (CRM → Referrals) generates trackable codes: each new customer who signs up with a code gets a credit, and the revenue they bring is attributed back to the code. It's a Business-plan feature.
Set your defaults
At the top of the Referrals page, set the defaults applied to new codes:
- Credit (USD) — the credit a new customer gets, applied to their first invoice
- Max uses — how many times a single code can be used
Generate a code
Click Generate code. A new trackable code appears in the table immediately. Generate as many as you like — for instance, one per advocate.
Share the link
Each code has a shareable link in the form:
https://yourdomain/r/CODE
Click Copy on a code's row to copy its link to your clipboard, then share it by text, email, or social. Anyone who signs up through the link gets the credit.
Track performance
The table shows, per code:
- Code — the code itself
- Referrer — the customer the code is tied to (if any)
- Credit — the credit it grants
- Uses — tracked uses out of the max
- Revenue — revenue attributed back to the code
Deleting a code
Click the trash icon on a code's row. Future signups using that code are rejected; existing attribution stays.
Best practices
- Make the credit meaningful — a real credit gets shared; a token one gets ignored
- Give advocates their own code so you can see who drives the most business
- Mention it in person at the end of a great visit — verbal asks convert best
FAQ
How does a new customer redeem a code?
By signing up through the code's /r/CODE link. The credit applies to their first invoice.
Can I cap how often a code is used? Yes — set Max uses before generating, shown as "uses / max" in the table.
How is revenue attributed? Revenue from customers who came in via a code rolls up into that code's Revenue column.
Why is the page locked? The Referral Program requires the Business plan.
