Issuing Refunds
Sometimes you need to return money to a customer. How you do it depends on how they paid.
Online card payments (Stripe)
Card payments taken through your invoice's Pay Now link settle in your Stripe account, so refunds are issued from your Stripe Dashboard:
- Open your Stripe Dashboard
- Find the payment
- Issue a full or partial refund
Stripe returns the money to the customer's card (typically 5–10 business days, depending on their bank). Refund-fee handling follows Stripe's policy for your region.
After refunding in Stripe, update the matching invoice in HandyBook so your records line up — for example, adjust the invoice status or notes to reflect the refund.
Offline payments (cash, check, transfer)
For payments you recorded manually, handle the refund the same way you took it (give back cash, send a check, etc.), then update the invoice in HandyBook so the balance and records are accurate.
Point-of-sale refunds
In-store POS sales have their own refund flow on the POS sale page — see the POS help. That's separate from invoice payments.
