Processing Fees Explained

When a customer pays an invoice online, two fees come out before the money lands in your bank.

The fees

  • Stripe processing — Stripe's standard rate, 2.9% + 30¢ per card transaction (US; rates vary by region)
  • HandyBook platform fee — 0.5% of the payment

Everything after those fees goes straight to your connected Stripe account. HandyBook's 0.5% is far below what many field-service tools charge.

Example

A customer pays a $500 invoice by card:

  • Stripe takes $14.80 (2.9% + 30¢)
  • HandyBook takes $2.50 (0.5%)
  • You receive $482.70 in your connected account

Where this is shown

You'll find the fee note in Settings → Payment Processing under your connected Stripe account, and in the pricing/FAQ on the site.

No surcharging in HandyBook

HandyBook doesn't add a customer-facing surcharge or pass-the-fee toggle — the fees come out of your payout. If you want to recover fees, fold them into your pricing.

Tracking what landed

  • Payments (sidebar) lists each recorded payment; open one to allocate it across your accounting (GL) codes.
  • For the exact fee and payout breakdown per transaction, use your Stripe Dashboard.

FAQ
