Exporting Data & Deleting Your Account
Both your data export and account deletion live at Dashboard → Settings → Privacy (the Privacy & data page). It covers your rights under CCPA, GDPR, and similar laws.
Export your data first
Before deleting anything, take a copy.
- On the Privacy & data page, the Export your data card has a Request export button.
- You can also use Export My Data in the Data & Privacy card on the main Settings page, which downloads a complete JSON file (
handybook-export-YYYY-MM-DD.json) of your customers, jobs, quotes, invoices, expenses, and more right in your browser.
Store the file somewhere safe — you'll likely want it for tax records.
Deleting your account (14-day grace)
Deletion is permanent, so it runs on a 14-day grace period you can cancel.
- Go to Settings → Privacy (Privacy & data).
- In the red Delete my account card, click Start deletion.
- Type DELETE exactly to confirm. Optionally tell us why you're leaving.
- Click Schedule deletion.
You'll see "Account deletion scheduled. Check your email." — a confirmation email goes out with the scheduled purge date.
Canceling a scheduled deletion
While deletion is pending, the Privacy & data page shows the exact date your data will be removed and a Cancel deletion button. Click it any time before that date to keep your account ("Deletion cancelled. Welcome back.").
What gets deleted
After the grace period, a scheduled purge permanently removes your account and its data — customers, jobs, quotes, invoices, payments, and related records. This cannot be undone once it runs.
A note on Stripe
Your connected Stripe account is independent of HandyBook. If you've connected Stripe for payments, disconnect it from Settings → Payment Processing → Disconnect; your Stripe account and any funds in it stay with Stripe. To delete data held at Stripe, contact Stripe.
