Creating a Service Plan

This article walks through building a service plan from scratch.

Step 1 — Define what's included

Before clicking anything, decide:

  • Who is this plan for? (residential, commercial, specific service vertical)
  • What's the value prop in one sentence? ("Quarterly HVAC tune-up + priority service for $39/month")
  • What services are included? (what visits will you actually do)
  • What perks? (priority, discount on extras, free X)
  • What price feels right?

A clear value prop is what sells the plan.

Step 2 — Create the plan

  1. Settings → Recurring Plans → + New Plan
  2. Name it (e.g. "HVAC Care Plus")
  3. Description — write the customer-facing one-paragraph pitch
  4. Price and frequency:
    • Monthly: $39/mo
    • Quarterly: $115/quarter
    • Annual: $429/year (often discounted vs. monthly)
  5. Term:
    • Open-ended (until cancelled) — most flexible
    • 12-month commitment with auto-renew — better for revenue predictability
  6. (Optional) Setup fee — one-time charge at signup

Step 3 — Define included services

What automatically schedules / runs as part of the plan?

  • Recurring job: "Quarterly HVAC tune-up" — auto-scheduled every 3 months
  • Recurring job: "Monthly filter swap" — auto-scheduled monthly

When customers subscribe, these jobs auto-create on their schedule.

Step 4 — Define perks

Set automatic discounts, priority, and access:

  • % off all non-plan services — e.g. "10% off any other work"
  • Priority scheduling — plan members get first slot booking access
  • Free annual perks — e.g. "free smoke alarm test, once a year"
  • Member-only services — services only available to plan members

Configured per plan in the Perks section.

Step 5 — Customer-facing presentation

Pick how the plan appears to customers:

  • Plan card for the customer portal — image, headline, price, "Subscribe"
  • Highlight features — bullet points of what's included
  • Comparison table if you have tiers

Preview the customer view before publishing.

Step 6 — Activate

Toggle the plan Active. It now appears on your portal and is available for enrollment.

Step 7 — Promote it

  • Email blast to past customers — "Introducing our maintenance plan"
  • Auto-pitch after job completion — drip campaign suggesting the plan
  • In-person mention — train your team to mention it during quote conversations

Setting up multiple tiers

For Bronze / Silver / Gold style plans:

  1. Create three plans (one per tier)
  2. Group them: Settings → Plan Groups → New Group → "Maintenance Plans"
  3. Add the three plans to the group
  4. Customer portal shows them side-by-side as a comparison

Editing a plan

You can edit any plan anytime:

  • Future enrollees get the new terms
  • Existing members stay on the version they signed up on (or you can manually migrate them, with their consent)

Deactivating a plan

Toggle off Active. Existing members aren't affected; new enrollment closes. Useful when retiring an old plan.

FAQ

What if the included service costs more than the monthly fee? That can be fine if customers have multiple visits per year and average out below cost — and the priority/discount perks attract the customer in the first place. Run the math: average cost per member per year vs. average revenue.

Can I include unlimited service? Risky — heavy users will eat your margins. Common alternative: "first hour of any service free, additional at member rate."

Can the plan include products too? Yes — e.g. "Free filter delivery quarterly." Add as a recurring action that ships a product (POS-fulfilled or vendor-fulfilled).

How do I cancel a member? Customer record → Active Plans → tap the plan → Cancel. They keep service through end of paid period; no further billing.

Can plans have a free trial? Yes — set a trial period in plan settings (e.g. "first 30 days free"). Stripe doesn't charge during trial; auto-charges on Day 31 unless cancelled.
