Your First 5 Minutes

This gets you from "just signed up" to "sending real quotes" fast. (Signing in runs a quick Cloudflare security check, and HandyBook's emails come from handymanbook.app — good to know up front.)

Minute 1 — Fill in your company info

  1. Go to Dashboard → Settings.
  2. In the Company Information card, enter your Company Name, plus license number, service area, insurance, and business hours.
  3. In Rates & Numbering, set your default hourly rate, tax rate, and your quote/invoice prefixes.
  4. Click Save Settings.

This information flows onto the documents you send.

Minute 2 — Connect Stripe

  1. On the Settings page, find the Payment Processing card.
  2. Click Set Up Payments and complete Stripe's onboarding.
  3. Back in HandyBook you'll see a green Connected badge.

You can now accept card payments on invoices; Stripe's standard processing applies, plus a small HandyBook platform fee.

Minute 3 — Add your first customer

  1. Open Customers from the sidebar and create a new customer.
  2. Enter their name, phone, email, and service address.
  3. Save.

You can also bring in existing customers from a CSV — see Importing Data.

Minute 4 — Create your first job

  1. From the customer's record (or the Jobs area), start a new job.
  2. Add a service description and a date/time (or leave it as a lead).
  3. Save — it appears in Jobs and on your Schedule.

Minute 5 — Send a quote

  1. Create a quote for the job and add line items with prices.
  2. Send it — your customer gets an emailed link to view, sign, and accept.

What's next

  • Set your branding (logo, colors) at Settings → Branding (Business plan).
  • Invite your team from the Team page.
  • Owners can tailor the sidebar at Settings → Navigation.

FAQ

I don't have a logo yet. Skip it — documents use your business name until you add one under Branding.

Do I need Stripe? Only to accept card payments in-app. You can still send invoices for offline payment without it.

Where do I set branding? Settings → Branding (a Business feature). See Logo, Colors & Branding.

Everything's editable later, right? Yes — company info, rates, and branding can all be changed any time without affecting past documents.
