Items, Discounts & Tax Rates

Your POS is only as good as its catalog and tax setup. Spend a few minutes here and every sale gets faster.

Items

Go to Point of Sale → Items and click Add Item (or the pencil to edit one). The list shows Name, SKU, Category, Price, and Stock, with edit and delete actions. Each item has:

  • Name * — what shows on the register tile and receipt
  • SKU and Barcode — for search and scanning
  • Price * — the sell price (required, non-negative)
  • Cost — what you paid, for your own margin math
  • Category — for grouping (defaults to Uncategorized)
  • Description and Image URL
  • Track inventory — a checkbox; when on, you also set Stock on hand and a Low-stock threshold

Name and Price are the only required fields. Click Save (or Add) to finish.

Inventory

When Track inventory is on, the register tile shows a "X left" badge that turns amber at or below the low-stock threshold. Adjust the count by editing the item. Leave inventory off for services and anything you don't count.

Discounts

Point of Sale → Discounts holds reusable, cart-level discounts. Click Add Discount:

  • Name * — e.g. "Senior 10% off"
  • Kind — Percentage or Fixed amount (toggle)
  • Value * — the percent (capped at 100) or dollar amount
  • Min subtotal — optional; the discount only appears at the Register once the cart reaches this subtotal
  • Active — whether it shows up at checkout

At the Register, pick a discount from the Discount dropdown in the cart. Discounts apply to the whole cart — there's no per-line discount and no free-form amount at checkout.

Tax Rates

Point of Sale → Tax Rates lists your rates with Name, Rate, Jurisdiction, Default, and Active. Click Add Rate:

  • Name * — e.g. "State Sales Tax"
  • Rate (%) * — the percentage, e.g. 8.250
  • Jurisdiction — optional label, e.g. "CA-Los Angeles"
  • Default rate — checkbox
  • Active — checkbox

The Register applies your default rate(s) to taxable items. If you mark none as default, all active rates apply. Mark an item as non-taxable on the item form (uncheck taxable) to exempt it.

FAQ

Can I bulk-import items from a CSV? Not in the current build — add items one at a time under Point of Sale → Items → Add Item.

Is there a "short name" for tiles? No — the item Name is used on both tiles and receipts. Keep names concise.

Can items have variations or modifiers (sizes, options)? There's no modifier editor on the item form; create a separate item per variation.

Can I set a variable / prompted price? The price is fixed per item. For one-off amounts, make a generic item at the price you need, or set up items at common price points.

Do discounts support coupon codes, expiry, or usage limits? POS discounts are reusable cart discounts chosen at checkout — no customer-entered codes, expiry dates, or max-use caps.

Can I combine multiple tax rates (state + city)? Add each rate and mark the ones that apply as default/active; the Register sums all applicable default rates. There's no separate "tax group" object.
